Nurburgring trip May 2008
So you’ve not been to the ‘Ring for four years.  All your previous visits were in a virtually brand new, stock company-provided new Mini Cooper.  How do you get yourself back into the swing of things?

Well, a non-UK bank holiday weekend in May seemed like a sensible idea.  Shame that weekend turned out to have the German equivalent of Mother’s Day and then a Bank holiday attached to it.  Now, what car?  Well, given my predilection for Golf Syncros, there was only one choice and that had just had a totally non-standard engine and gearbox fitted.  Not only that, some of the vehicular content was twenty years old this year.  Thankfully the car is all mine and I know the bastard thing like the back of my hand.  My left hand and I’m left handed.

What could possibly go wrong?

Hell in a handcart/Transit

Last year for our big corporate hoopla I got a T5 Caravelle from the hire company we use.

This year there was some sort of administrative cock-up and I got stiffed with a Ford 'Tourneo'.

Australia

Australia isn't somewhere I've ever had much ambition to visit - it's always struck me as too bloody hot and full of creatures waiting to murder you violently and very painfully.  These sort of views were of little interest to my sister, who came back with an Australian from a year out after Uni.  The pair of them then decided to relocate to Australia about two years ago.  Earlier this year they announced their intention to get married out there.  I didn't think this would impact on me much, as none of my family had either the inclination, or the cash required to go and watch them tie the knot.  On top of that, they announced they would be coming to the UK to celebrate their union, too.
